Claire’s Story
Claire has been exploring and pushing boundaries since she was a young girl growing up in the Oregon countryside. After spending the majority of her formative years building forts, playing pranks on family members and practicing the saxophone, she shipped off to college and began leading group adventures. Since then, Claire has led backcountry trips all over the U.S. From Telemarking and Skiing, to Kayaking, Hiking and and Sailing, if it involves travel in the wilderness, she’s probably led it. Recently, she’s been doing more canoeing, this summer setting a speed record for the boundary waters in Northern Minnesota for duo paddling 212 unsupported miles in 100 hours, 20 minutes.
With a background in Fine Art and software engineering, Claire is a Jill of all trades. She is currently a Design Strategy fellow with the Experience Institute, studying the power of Creativity and Collaboration.
Why this trip?
Racing in the wilderness fascinates me. There is this crazy derring-do feeling of exploring the unknown capacity or ability of the group striving toward a common goal. It keeps me feeling alive, and helps me remember that I always have room to grow and learn.
